Formed in December 2010, the International Disaster Response Subcommittee to the Advisory Committee on International Communications and Information Policy (ACICIP) reports to the Advisory Committee on International Communications and Information Policy in an advisory capacity regarding issues related to the information and communications technology (ICT) aspects of U.S. international disaster response. The Subcommittee, through its recommendations, seeks to increase collaboration and coordination to reduce duplication and drive more effective overall ICT responses to future international crises.
The Subcommittee comprises individuals from a broad range of companies and institutions experienced in the ICT aspects of international disaster response, including Non Government Organizations (NGOs), trade associations, manufacturers, service providers, and trade associations. The current 15 members of the Subcommittee advise the ACICIP on an ongoing basis in the following ways:
In late November, 2011, the ACICIP International Disaster Subcommittee provided the Recommendations Report to the full Advisory Committee on International Communications and Information Policy. This Report recommends actions the U.S. Government could take to help facilitate enhanced public and private ICT responses to major international disasters. The Subcommittee considers these recommendations to be a “living” document, to be updated by the Subcommittee as necessary on an ongoing basis.
