Direct Line Program

The Direct Line program provides a unique opportunity for American businesses, particularly small- and medium-sized enterprises, to engage directly via teleconference with U.S. Ambassadors overseas. The program is open to American companies which are already in the country where the Ambassador serves or which are interested in expanding their businesses into those countries. Calls will vary in topic according to the specific needs for business in a given country. Tell us about your experience with Direct Line using #DirectLine on Twitter.

Benefits of Direct Line

"Firms expressed particular appreciation for the opportunity to get answers to specific questions about operating in Kuwait and how the Embassy can offer support to U.S. businesses seeking to enter or expand in the Kuwaiti market. All of the participants expressed interest in continuing the Direct Line calls."
– Ambassador Matthew Tueller, U.S. Embassy Kuwait

"The Direct Line to U.S. Business call which I jointly hosted in June with a Spanish government official was extremely well-received by the almost thirty U.S. companies that participated … Even three months after the call took place, U.S. Embassy Madrid is still receiving comments from prominent U.S. exporters about how useful the call was for them."
– Ambassador Alan Solomont, U.S. Embassy Madrid

"Embassy Lusaka participated in the pilot of the Direct Line to American Business program to promote the first-ever Commerce Department trade mission to Zambia and South Africa ... I was very pleased that our first Direct Line call in May 2012 directly led to several successful company applications to participate in this important trade mission. We have already begun to use our subsequent Direct Line calls to promote other commercial opportunities in Zambia, including government tenders and infrastructure investment plans."
– Ambassador Mark Storella, U.S. Embassy Zambia

"Direct Line offered an exceptional opportunity for our Mission to have real-time communication with the front-line of U.S. businesses engaged in expanding commercial and investment ties with Colombia and the Latin American region in general. The breadth of interests and practical questions regarding market potential also helps us organize ourselves more effectively to be helpful at this juncture when the opportunities in Colombia are multiplying."
– Ambassador Michael McKinley, U.S. Embassy Colombia
