Host: Ambassador Paul Jones
Date, time, time zone for call: Tuesday, April 23, 2013; 7:30 p.m. EDT.
Deadline for RSVPs: Monday, April 22, 2013
Brief description of call: The upcoming direct line call with U.S. Embassy Kuala Lumpur will update U.S. companies on opportunities in the oil and gas sector in Malaysia. The Malaysian Government and state-owned PETRONAS have made increasing production of oil and gas a priority, to include development of new deep water fields and marginal fields, as well as enhancing oil recovery from existing depleting fields. PETRONAS alone has earmarked some $100 billion for new investments in these and other efforts. In addition, there are major projects underway to develop the southern part of the Malaysian state of Johor, next to Singapore, as a new oil storage and petroleum refining and petrochemical hub. The call is timed to coincide with the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, in which a number of U.S. companies are participating.
