Brief description of call: The high cost of electricity in the Pacific Islands makes renewable energy (solar, biofuel, wind and hydro power,) a viable alternative and a business opportunity. The U.S. is working to help the Pacific Islands increase their renewable energy capacity through renewable energy finance programs such as the U.S.-Asia Pacific Comprehensive Partnership for a Sustainable Energy Future, and other initiatives targeting small island countries. This Direct Line will educate renewable energy businesses on the potential for business in the Pacific Islands, and link U.S. renewable energy businesses with U.S. Embassy personnel who can connect businesses with Island energy interests.
