Brief description of call: South Africa plans to double its electricity generation capacity by 2030, presenting vast opportunities for U.S. exports of goods and services, as well as U.S. direct investment. Key elements of South Africa's energy plan include building a fleet of nuclear reactors and vastly augmenting renewables. South Africa's planned 2030 electricity supply mix includes: 48 percent coal; 15 percent renewables; 14 percent nuclear; 14 percent natural gas; 6 percent domestic hydro; and 2 percent imported hydro.

This teleconference will focus on opportunities for U.S. companies in the South African energy sector. Ambassador Gaspard will host the call and provide an introduction, which will be followed by an interactive question and answer session. The Ambassador will be joined by the U.S. Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission, Economic Minister Counselor, Senior Foreign Commercial Service Officer, and other members of the Mission Pretoria Economic and Commercial Team.
