Brief description of call: Senegal has developed ambitious plans to increase energy supply from 580 MW at present to more than 1500 MW in 2017. At the same time, the government is turning to renewable, coal, and LNG energy projects to diversify energy sources and lower energy costs. As major U.S. energy firms expand their business in Senegal, this teleconference will offer a forum to discuss the opportunities and challenges involved in Senegal’s energy sector.
Ambassador Lukens will host the call and review the efforts of the State Department to facilitate U.S. investment in Senegal’s energy sector, which will be followed by an interactive discussion of energy sector challenges and opportunities in Senegal.
