Topic: Behind, At, and Beyond the Border: Doing Business Across the U.S.-Canada Border

Host: U.S. Consul General Andrew Parker

Date, time, time zone for call: Thursday, February 20, 2014; 2:00 p.m. EST (2:00 p.m. in Montreal)

Brief description of call: With nearly $2 billion in daily trade, the U.S.-Canadian border is one of the most critical trade junctures in the world. Under the Beyond the Border (BTB) Action Plan, important progress has been made in facilitating the flow of goods and people while enhancing security. This Direct Line call is an opportunity for U.S. businesses—particularly small- and medium-sized enterprises in Northeastern states—to hear directly from the Consul General and Canadian officials on how to improve border crossings, speed customs clearances and do business across the border. The Direct Line session will begin with brief presentations by the Consul General and Canadian officials and conclude with a moderated Question and Answer session. Representatives will be prepared to answer questions regarding how Canadian visa and customs policies and recent policy initiatives under the Beyond the Border Action Plan impact U.S. businesses.

Participants:

  • Moderator: Pol/Econ Officer Andrew Zvirzdin
  • U.S. Consul General Andrew Parker
  • CBSA Representative
  • CIC Representative
  • U.S. Consular Officers
  • U.S. Foreign Commercial Service Representative
