Yugoslavia: USTDA Grant To Support FATCA Project Management Training

Media advisory issued by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency
Belgrade, Yugoslavia
February 4, 2003

The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) announces a grant signing ceremony to be held Thursday February 6th at 11 a.m. at the Federal Air Traffic Control Authority (FATCA) offices in Belgrade. The grant to be signed represents a continuation of USTDA's commitment to assist the Yugoslav Government in the development of its civil aviation sector. The Director General of FATCA, Mr. Nikola Stankov, and USTDA Regional Director for Europe, Mr. Ned Cabot, will sign the Grant Agreement.

The $190,985 USTDA technical assistance grant will build capacity in the areas of project management, acquisition management, and engineering management at the Project Management Office of FATCA in Yugoslavia. The goal is to prepare FATCA for the planned implementation of a modernized Air Traffic Control (ATC) system. This assistance reflects the specific project needs of FATCA for implementing the project. The MITRE Corporation of McLean, VA, will provide this assistance.

FATCA's offices are located at Omladinskih brigada 1, Novi Belgrade. For more information on covering this event, please contact the Commercial Section at the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade at +381-11-646-286.

The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) advances economic development and U.S. commercial interests in developing and middle income countries. The agency funds various forms of technical assistance, feasibility studies, training, orientation visits and business workshops that support the development of a modern infrastructure and a fair and open trading environment. USTDA's strategic use of foreign assistance funds to support sound investment policy and decision-making in host countries creates an enabling environment for trade, investment and sustainable economic development. Operating at the nexus of foreign policy and commerce, USTDA is uniquely positioned to work with U.S. firms and host countries in achieving the agency's trade and development goals. In carrying out its mission, USTDA gives emphasis to economic sectors that may benefit from U.S. exports of goods and services.
