i mproving global observation systems will be an important topic of discussion during the G8. NOAA is bringing experts to the G8 Summit to discuss the importance of ocean, coastal, and global observation to the world's economy.

NOAA will also present famed undersea explorer Bob Ballard who discovered the wreck of the RMS Titanic. Ballard will be linked via satellite live from the NOAA ship Ronald H. Brown, which is over the Titanic wreck site. Ballard is a member of the U.S. Commission on Ocean Policy and NOAA will have a two-way link to facilitate his participation.

For more than two decades, nearly half of Ethiopia's 68 million people have experienced some degree of food insecurity and malnutrition. Approximately five million Ethiopians are "chronically food insecure," i.e., unable at some time in any year to secure an adequate supply of food for survival. Millions more face hunger or food insecurity in Eritrea, Somalia, the Sudan, Kenya, and Uganda.

During the Summit G8 Leaders will discuss efforts to help 5 million chronically food insecure people attain food security by 2009.
