| Agriculture, Biotechnology, and Textile Trade AffairsThe Office of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Textile Trade Affairs (ABT) works to advance the State Department’s critical global food security goals. The ABT team is addressing barriers and opening markets for American farm products, contributing to the development of effective food aid policies, promoting rural development and increasing agricultural productivity through biotechnology. ABT oversees the distribution of the Department’s biotech outreach funds to promote international acceptance of biotechnology. -------------------------------------
Mr. Saxton assumed the duties of Director of the Office of Agricultural, Biotechnology, and Textile Trade Affairs in the Bureau of Economic, Energy, and Business Affairs in October 2006. In a 35-year career in the Foreign Service, Mr. Saxton has served extensively abroad in Europe and Latin America. He is a member of the Senior Foreign Service with the rank of minister-counselor. His most recent overseas tour was in Nicaragua where he was the Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Managua, Nicaragua from 2001-2004. Before Nicaragua he was the Director of the Office of Canadian Affairs, in the State Department’s Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs from 1999 - 2001. Mr. Saxton has a B.A. in History from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia and an M.A. in International Relations from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
