State Department Holds Gathering to Unite Efforts to Protect Caribbean Ecosystems, March 24, 2004

John Turner, Assistant Secretary of State for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs, encourages middle school students in Miami, FL, and their peers in Trinidad and Tobago (who watched via digital video conference) to continue studies of their local environment. Connected via digital video conference, the students in Miami and Trinidad and Tobago compared and contrasted the measurements that they had taken of their local environment as part of the GLOBE program, a hands-on, school-based science and education program. The digital video conference, held as part of a gathering to focus efforts to protect Caribbean ecosystems, was made possible by the Department of State. [State Dept. photo]
