Burnam, Jeffry M.BIOGRAPHY Jeffry M. Burnam Jeffry M. Burnam is the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Environment in the Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Science Affairs in the U.S. Department of State. He lives in Fairfax, Virginia, with his wife and two daughters. From 1981-2001, Mr. Burnam served on the professional staff of the U.S. Senate, working on energy, environmental and forestry issues for Senator Richard G. Lugar (R.- Ind.) and for the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry. From 1979-1981, he was the Research Director of the House Republican Task Force on Government Regulation and Legislative Assistant to Congressman Mickey Edwards (R.- Okla.). Among the public laws which Mr. Burnam helped to draft are the Biomass Research and Development Act of 2000, the Tropical Forest Conservation Act of 1998, the Acid Rain Title of the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990 and the Global Environmental Assistance Act of 1989 (Debt for Nature). Mr. Burnam obtained his Ph.D. and M.A. in Political Science from the University of Chicago, and a B.A. in Government from Cornell University. He recently taught as Adjunct Professor of Government at Georgetown University and in the Washington Semester Program of Claremont McKenna College. Also, Mr. Burnam holds a Senior Managers Program Certificate from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. His hobbies are hiking and playing piano. |
