Eugenio Yunis
Chief, Sustainable Development of Tourism, World Tourism Organization (WTO)

Mr. Eugenio Yunis is a Civil Engineer and Development Economist who worked for many years as consultant throughout the world, advising governments, local authorities and the tourism industry, on development planning, marketing, environmental and organisational aspects.

From 1982 to 1989 he was at the World Tourism Organisation, in charge of the Organisation’s activities in the Americas and Europe, and as deputy Director for Technical Co-operation. From 1990 to 1994, he was Director General of the National Tourism Board of Chile, his home country.

Mr Yunis is back at the World Tourism Organization since 1997, heading the Sustainable Development of Tourism Section. In his current position at WTO, he is responsible for the Organization’s programme of work concerning the development and management of all forms of tourism in a sustainable manner. He handles the WTO relationships with all UN agencies involved in sustainable development matters, including WTO’s participation at the World Summit of Sustainable Development (Johannesburg 2002). During 2002, he lead WTO’s activities in connection with the UN-designated International Year of Ecotourism and the World Ecotourism Summit (Quebec 2002).
