Green, VirginiaBIOGRAPHY Virginia Green Prior to her appointment by President Bush to the position of Vice President Investment Policy, Overseas Private Investment Corporation, Mrs. Green practiced law in the private and public sectors. As Associate General Counsel of the Department of Defense, Mrs. Green was responsible the Department’s international treaty obligations, applicable Status of Forces Agreements, and the environmental policies and procedures of contract undertakings. One of the responsibilities of the office was to extend environmental policies to the protection of the natural habitat of the Panama Canal. In private practice, Mrs. Green served as a member of the General Counsel’s office of ITT, where she established a best practices environmental program for ITT’s worldwide operations. At the time both Continental Baking and the Sheraton Hotel group were members of the ITT corporate family. In the Office of Vice President Investment Policy, Mrs. Green oversees the environmental review of OPIC investments and the monitoring of environmentally sensitive projects throughout the course of the investment. Among the ecotourism projects on which OPIC has worked are a Big Five or Safari preserve in Botswanna, a biologically diverse sanctuary in Mozambique, and submersible vessels for the undisturbed viewing of tropical fish. Mrs. Green joined Assistant Secretary Turner on his recent trip to Gabon with Michael Fay. Mrs. Green has her Juris Doctor from the Georgetown University Law Center where she was an editor of the Law Journal and her Bachelor of Arts degree from Goucher College. |
