President Bush to Nominate John F. Turner to be Assistant Secretary of State for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs

President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate one individual and his intention to designate one individual to serve in his administration.

The President intends to nominate John F. Turner to be Assistant Secretary of State for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs. He has served as the President and CEO of the Conservation Fund since 1993 and was Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service from 1989 to 1993. Turner was a member of the Wyoming State Legislature from 1971 to 1989, as a State Senator from 1975 to 1989 and as a Wyoming State Representative from 1971 to 1975.  He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and received a Master's Degree in Wildlife Ecology from the University of Michigan.

The President intends to designate Glenn L. McCullough, Jr. of Mississippi to be Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Tennessee Valley Authority. He has served as a member of the Tennessee Valley Board of Directors since 1999.  McCullough was elected Mayor of Tupelo, Mississippi, in 1997, and in 1992 was appointed director of the Mississippi Office of the Appalachian Regional Commission by Mississippi Governor Kirk Fordice.    He is a graduate of Mississippi State University.
