Diplomacy in Action


The Northern Zone Initiative (IZN) is part of a U.S. Embassy in Asuncion, Paraguay program dedicated to preventing conflict and stabilizing the at-risk northern region of Paraguay. Funded through Section 1207, the project aims to bolster economic security by increasing employment and household income, focusing assistance on Paraguay's large population of small farmers.

Steve is the 1207 program coordinator at the U.S. Embassy in Asunción, Paraguay, South America. "The 1207 Program is funding from the Coordinator for Reconstruction and Stabilization (S/CRS) at the State Department, which enables us to bring together all the elements of the Embassy in the country team to work for a common purpose. In Paraguay, our common purpose is what's called the Northern Zone..."
