These collections consist of material relating to the exploration and development of the oil fields in Arauca Department and the difficulties and challenges in protecting the Cano Limon Oil Pipeline.
Arauca’s Oil Reserves and the ELN – the difficulties regarding financing and security for oil exploration and extraction in Arauca. This collection includes material concerning attacks on the Cano Limon Oil Pipeline by guerrilla groups including the National Liberation Army (ELN) and opposition to the drilling in Samore by the U’Wa people.
Arauca Pipeline Security – protecting the Cano Limon Oil Pipeline. This collection contains material regarding increased U.S. assistance, including training for the Colombian 18th Brigade and the 5th Mobile Brigade. This collection also includes information on the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), the United Self-Defense Group of Colombia (AUC) and Plan Colombia.
AirScan International, Inc. – this collection consists of material relating to AirScan International, Inc., a company contracted by Occidental Petroleum to patrol the Cano Limon Pipeline. In 1998 pilots working for AirScan were allegedly involved in a bombing in Santo Domingo, Arauca which resulted in the deaths of seventeen citizens.
