The Singapore American School is an independent, nonprofit, coeducational day school, which offers an educational program from preschool through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. The school year comprises 2 semesters extending approximately from August 15 to December 16 and from January 9 to June 5.

Organization: The School is governed by a 12-member Board of Governors elected for 3-year terms by the parents of students enrolled at the School.

Curriculum: The curriculum is that of U.S. general academic, college-preparatory public schools. The School's testing program includes the College Board tests. Instruction is in English. French, Spanish, Japanese, and Mandarin are taught as foreign languages. Most of the graduates go on to colleges and universities in the United States. The School is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

Faculty: In the 2011-2012 school year, there are 386 (inclusive of 22 administrative staff members) full-time and 18 part-time staff members.

Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year, enrollment was 3,878 (PS-12).

Facilities: The School is located on a 36-acre campus approximately a 25-minute drive from downtown Singapore. New state-of-the-art facilities house 4 separate divisions, including the primary, intermediate, middle, and high schools. Each division has its own classrooms, library, offices, and support facilities. Support facilities include 5 air-conditioned gymnasiums; 3 outdoor covered play areas; 3 swimming pools; 3 cafeterias; 5 tennis courts; a 1,000-seat stadium; and track and field, baseball, softball, soccer, and rugby fields. Middle and high school facilities include modern science laboratories; computer facilities; a language lab; and classrooms for drafting, consumer life science, business, and applied technology. The campus also includes a variety of performing arts facilities, including an 850-seat auditorium, a 350-seat drama theater, and a 750-seat elementary theater, and designated classroom spaces for music, art, and drama. All facilities are fully air-conditioned.

Finances: In the 2011-2012 school year about 85 percent of the School's income derives from tuition and registration fees. Annual tuition rates are as follows: PS: $10,070; PK: $15,003; Kdg.-grade 2: $19,732; grades 3-5: $19,732; grades 6-8: $21,241; and grades 9-12: $22,586. The School also charges a registration fee of $9,785, payable upon first enrollment in the School, and an annual building surcharge of $2,854. These fees are payable in Singapore dollars. (All fees are quoted in U.S. dollars at the exchange rate of $1.00 to S$1.226.)
