International School Bangkok (ISB) is an independent, coeducational, nonprofit day school, which was founded in 1951. ISB offers an educational program for children ages 4-18 (PK-grade12). The school year extends from approximately mid-August to early June and is divided into two semesters. A summer program is also offered.
Organization: A 13-member Board of Trustees is elected by parents of students enrolled in the School. The School encourages and benefits from active parent participation.
Curriculum: The curriculum is based on North American standards and International Best Practices. The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma is offered in grades 11 and 12 along with Advanced Placement exams. Instruction is in English, and the School uses a child-centered approach. Students have extensive learning opportunities in the fine and performing arts, athletics, technology, and community service programs. There are also programs for students with mild learning disabilities. Approximately 98 percent of graduates attend universities. The School is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and chartered by the Thailand Ministry of Education.
Faculty: In the 2008-2009 school year, there are 230 faculty members, including 134 U.S. citizens, 14 host-country nationals, and 82 third-country nationals. All teachers at ISB are certified and average 18 years of experience at ISB, with approximately 85 percent holding advanced degrees.
Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2008-2009 school year, enrollment was 1,883 (PK-grade 12). Of the total, 622 were U.S. citizens, 381 host-country nationals, and 880 third-country nationals. Of the U.S. enrollment, 208 were dependents of U.S. government direct hire or contract employees, and 414 were dependents of other private U.S. citizens.
Facilities: The 35-acre campus is located in a family-oriented community just outside the center of Bangkok. The School offers state-of-the-art facilities for academics, athletics, fine and performing arts, and other programs to support a quality educational opportunity.
Finances: In the 2008-2009 school year, the school’s income is derived from tuition. Annual tuition rates are as follows: Pre-K: $10,857; Kdg.-grade 5: $16,605; grades 6-8: $18,675; and grades 9-12: $19,567. The School also charges a registration fee of approximately $6,906. (All fees are quoted in U.S. dollar equivalents of Thai Baht.)
