2008-2009

The Antwerp International School is an independent, coeducational day school which offers an educational program from preschool through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. The School was founded in 1967. The school year comprises 3 trimesters extending from late August to late June.

Organization: The School is governed by a Board of Directors.

Curriculum: The International Baccalaureate program for grades 11-12 leads to high quality university placements in the USA, Europe and around the world. Instruction is in English. Dutch, French, and Spanish are taught as foreign languages. Extracurricular activities include athletics, drama, music, art, computer education, various clubs, and a yearbook. Instruction in English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) is offered. The School's testing program includes the PSAT/NMSQT and the SAT. The School is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the European Council of International Schools.

Faculty: In the 2008-2009 school year, there are 51 full-time-equivalent faculty members, including 15 U.S. citizens, 8 host-country nationals, and 28 third-country nationals.

Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2008-2009 school year, enrollment was 560 (PS-grades 5: 238; grades 6-8: 126; and grades 9-12: 196). Of the total, 82 were U.S. citizens, 57 were host-country nationals, and 421 were third-country nationals. All of the U.S. students were dependents of U.S. business and foundation employees.

Facilities: Located in a leafy green suburb in a pleasant environment close to Antwerp city, the school is comprised of fourteen acres. Six buildings house the School. There are 45 classrooms, four science laboratories, a library, three specialist computer centers, ESL classrooms, a gymnasium and extensive state of the art sports center, art and music studios, large multi-purpose area and theatre, learning improvement center, a kitchen and cafeteria, and three playgrounds including a specialist one for preschool-kindergarten. The School is fully networked with Information and Communications Technology (ICT) including interactive smart boards.

Finances: In the 2008-2009 school year, the School’s income derives from tuition and fees. Annual tuition rates are as follows: PS: €7,105; PK: €10,660; Kdg.: €17,660; grades 1-4: €19,375; grade 5: €19,815; 6-8: €21,745; grades 9-11-12: €23,035; grade 10: €23,285. The School also charges an application fee of €1,000 and a transportation fee of €2,770 and a capital building fee of € 525 per student – max € 1,050/family. These fees are payable in euros.
