2008-2009

The International Preschool of Estonia and the International School of Estonia form an independent, coeducational day school, which offers an educational program for students ages 3 to 18 of all nationalities. The School was founded in 1995. The school year comprises 2 semesters extending from August 21 to June 5.

Organization: The School is governed by a Board of Governors, the membership of which is formed as set forth in the Bylaws and Articles of Association of the School. The School is recognized and fully licensed by the Education Ministry of the Estonian government.

Curriculum: The School offers a comprehensive education program with an international curriculum. The School is fully authorized as an International Baccalaureate PYP and Diploma Program school, with an ISE Middle School Program. The language of instruction is English. ISE is fully accredited by the Council of International Schools and New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

Faculty: In the 2008-2009 school year, there are 28 full-time and 2 part-time faculty members, including 8 U.S. citizens, 12 host-country nationals, and 10 third-country nationals.

Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2008-2009 school year, enrollment was 122 (preschool-grade 12). Of the total, 23 were U.S. citizens, 13 were host-country nationals, and 86 were third-country nationals. Of the U.S. enrollment, 21 were dependents of U.S. government direct-hire or contract employees, and 2 were of other private U.S. citizens.

Facilities: The School rents a former vocational school in the central district of Tallinn. The building was built in the mid 1800's and originally was a summer stable for the Czar's cavalry. The facility is within walking distance of most points in the central area of the city. Specialist areas include a newly equipped science laboratory, a gymnasium with showers and changing rooms, an ESL room, a cafeteria, and a 16 station computer laboratory. The School also has a newly renovated library, a fenced playground, an outdoor basketball court and utilizes the Tallinn sports hall for upper school PE classes.

Finances: In the 2008-2009 school year, the School's income derives from tuition. Annual tuition rates are as follows: PS3 (1/2 day): €3,089; PS4 (full day): €4,078; Kdg.-grade 5: €15,015; grades 6-10: €16,309; and grades 11-12: €16,766. There is an additional one-time non-refundable registration fee of €250 for Preschool and €500 for grades Reception to Grade 12. All new students are assessed a one-time capital levy fee of €2000. The capital levy fee begins with enrollment into kindergarten. These fees are payable in euros or EEKs. (All fees are quoted in euros.)
