The American International School of Bucharest is an international, coeducational day school, which offers an educational program from Early Childhood (3-4 year olds) through grade 12 for students of any nationality. The School was founded in 1962. The school year comprises 2 semesters extending from late August through mid June.

Organization: The School is governed by a 10-member, self-perpetuating Board of Directors.

Curriculum: The School provides an International curriculum in English, suited to meet the needs of the international student community in Bucharest. The School offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, IB Middle Years Program (MYP) in grades 6-10, and the IB Primary Years Program (PYP) in grades K-5. Specialists in art, drama, cinematography, physical education, music (band/choir), computers, Spanish and French serve students at various grade levels. The School is currently unable to assist students with major learning disabilities or the physically challenged. The School is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the Council of International Schools (CIS) and is authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) to offer the IB Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma Programs.

Faculty: In the 2011-2012 school year, there are 91 full-time and 5 part-time faculty members.

Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year, enrollment was 754.

Facilities: The School’s new campus, which is located on a 10-hectare (25 acre) site north of the city center, opened its doors in the 2001-2002 school year to children in Early Childhood (3-4 year old) - grade 12. The new facility includes spacious classrooms, a library/media center, a sports center/gymnasium for the secondary school and a gymnasium for the elementary school, music and art rooms, science and computer labs, a performing arts theater, a cafeteria and many outdoor sports facilities including tennis, basketball and soccer.

Finances: In the 2011-2012 school year, the School's income comes primarily from tuition and fees. Annual tuition rates are as follows: EC3-4: €13,712; Kdg.-grade 8: €17,997; and grades 9-12: €18,650. The total includes a non-refundable capital fee for the new campus project. There is also a one-time application fee of €200 which must be submitted with the application, and a one-time registration fee of €800, both non-refundable. The School offers no fee discounts. Fees are quoted in euros and payable in euros or lei.
