The QSI International School of Ljubljana is an independent, coeducational, day school founded in 1995. The School offers an educational program from PK (3 & 4 year-old class) through grade 12 (secondary IV) for students of all nationalities. The school year is comprised of 5 quintiles extending from August 25 to October 13, from October 14 to December 13, from December 14 to March 1, from March 2 to April 23, and from April 30 to June 20.
Organization: The School is governed by the Board of Directors of Quality Schools International, the membership of which is formed as set forth in the Bylaws of Quality Schools International. An Advisory Board, composed of 6 to 10 members who reside in Ljubljana, assists the School in its operation. The School is registered under Slovene Law with the cooperation of the Slovene Government.
Curriculum: The School offers a mastery learning approach to well-defined learner outcomes for each age level. The curriculum is similar to that of U.S. public and private schools with the English language as the medium of instruction. Classroom instruction, leading to individual mastery of each outcome, takes advantage of a well organized curriculum, small classes and the application of modern technology across the curriculum. Slovene language and culture is included in our cultural studies curriculum. The School is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
Faculty: In the 2011-2012 school year, there are 9 full-time faculty members who are not Slovenian. There are also host-country nationals who provide instruction for the technology, science, music, art, physical education, Slovenian and German programs.
Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year, enrollment was 52.
Facilities: The School operates in a new facility with daily access to a full-sized gymnasium, indoor badminton courts and softball fields, all located on the grounds of the school. A forested park-like area surrounds the school, giving it the feel of the countryside, yet the school is located inside the city of Ljubljana. Ample parking space is available. The school building and outside play area are protected by a security system.
Finances: In the 2011-2012 school year, 98% of the School's income derives from tuition. Annual tuition rates are as follows: PK (half day): $6,400; (full day) $7,800; and Kdg.-grade 12: $17,700. The School also charges a capital fund fee of $1,600 per student and a one-time registration fee of $300. (No capital fund fee is charged for the PK program.) Discounts up to $500 per student are available for early payment of fees. (All fees are quoted in U.S. dollars.)
