The Istanbul International Community School (IICS) is an independent, coeducational day school, which offers an educational program from prekindergarten through grade 12 for students of the international community (holders of non-Turkish passports). The school year is comprised of 2 semesters extending from late August to mid-June.

Organization: The School is governed by a Board of Directors, which includes the headmaster of the School, the president of the Parent-Teacher Association, and a faculty representative. Board composition includes a combination of elected and self-perpetuating members. The School operates as a fully-owned subsidiary of a U.S. not-for-profit corporation.

Curriculum: The curriculum is international in nature and is designed to provide students with a sound educational foundation for attending a university. IICS is one of the first schools in the world authorized to offer all three of the International Baccalaureate Programs: the Primary Years (preschool-grade 6), the Middle Years (grades 7-10) and the Diploma (grades 11-12). French is offered as a second language in primary grades 1-6. In the secondary school, beginning, intermediate, and advanced French and German are offered to grades 7-10. In grades 11-12, intermediate and advanced French and German and beginning Spanish are offered. Turkish is offered in the primary and secondary schools as an introduction to the host culture. The School is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and by the Council of International Schools.

Faculty: In the 2008-2009 school year, there are 65 full-time teachers and administrators and 17 assistants. Of the total, 21 percent are U.S. citizens and 79 percent are citizens of other countries, including Turkey.

Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2008-2009 school year, enrollment was 520 (PK-grade 5, 257; grades 6-8, 113 and grades 9-12, 150). Of the total enrollment, 120 were U.S. citizens, and 400 were third-country nationals. Of the U.S. enrollment, 12 were dependents of U.S. government direct-hire or contract employees and 108 were dependents of other private U.S. citizens.

Facilities: The School is located on 2 campuses. The main, purpose-built Marmara campus (PK-grade 12) is 25 miles outside the city amid rolling hills, overlooking a large lake. There are 28 large classrooms; an automated library/media center; music and art rooms; a theater and outside amphitheater; computer laboratories; biology, physics, chemistry, and design technology laboratories; a cafeteria with a panoramic view; a gymnasium; outside courts for basketball and tennis; a running track; and a natural grass sports pitch. The smaller Hisar Campus (PK-grade 3) is located in the Bosphorus area. The School is situated in a beautiful, mature garden overlooking the Hisar castle ramparts with a traditional villa surrounded by newly constructed classroom buildings. Hisar facilities include a sports/music salon, library, computer laboratory, rubberized basketball court, and an ample playground.

Finances: In the 2008-2009 school year, the School's income is derived from tuition. Annual tuition rates range from $8,250 to $18,650. The entrance fee, $4,700 for preschool and $7,400 for grades 1-12, is separate from the tuition. A one-time capital levy of $2,500 is charged to new students beginning from grade 1. The application fee is $500. These fees are payable in U.S. dollars. (All fees are quoted in U.S. dollars.)
