The QSI International School of Astana is an independent, coeducational day school which offers an educational program from prekindergarten through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. The School was founded in 2005. The school year is comprised of 3 terms extending from late August until mid-June. The school completed the self-study process for accreditation during the 2010-2011 school year and will be a fully accredited school with Middle States Association in Autumn 2011.
Organization: The School is governed by the Board of Directors of Quality Schools International, the membership of which is formed as set forth in the Bylaws of Quality Schools International. An Advisory Board, composed of 6 members who reside in Astana, assists the School in its operation. The School operates with the approval of the Kazakhstan government. The school is licensed by the Kazakh Ministry of Education.
Curriculum: The School offers a mastery-learning program with a curriculum similar to that of U.S. public and private schools. Instruction leading to individual mastery, takes advantage of small class sizes and the diverse educational backgrounds of the students. Instruction is in English.
Faculty: In the 2011-2012 school year there are 28 full-time teachers, 7 part-time teachers, and 8 are teaching assistants.
Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year enrollment was 117.
Facilities: The school campus is a series of five buildings. The buildings are divided into lower elementary, upper elementary, and middle school/high school. The school has a gymnasium and a large indoor play area due to the extreme cold temperatures during the winter. The schools has, 24 classrooms, two computer labs, two science labs, a small cafeteria in each building with students, a large outdoor play area with playground equipment and library with 11,000 volumes. Property has been purchased for a built-for-purpose facility that will hold 275 students. Groundbreaking is scheduled for March 2012.
Finances: In the 2011-2012 school year, approximately 95% of the School’s income derives from tuition. Annual tuition rates are as follows: PK: $6,200 (until 12:30) and $8,200 (until 15:15); grades K-12: $18,700. The annual capital levy fee is $6,400. These fees are payable in U.S. dollars.
