Lyford Cay International School (LCIS) is an independent, non-denominational day school offering the International Baccalaureate Program from Junior PreK through Grade 12 (ages 3-18). The school was founded in 1962 and is authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) and accredited by the Council of International Schools, the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
Curriculum: The International Baccalaureate Program (IB) provides the direction for the curriculum. The Secondary School offers the IB Middle Years Program and Diploma Program. All students take the PSAT and the ERB standardized tests. All graduates attend college with most attending college in the United States. The Elementary School offers the IB Primary Years Program, as well as an Enrichment Program that complements the rigorous learning experiences to high achieving students. The school offers a Learning Enhancement program to support students with mild learning difficulties. Students have the opportunity to participate in wide range of sporting and extra-curricular activities including, golf, tennis, soccer, basketball, gymnastics, kayaking, sailing, Model United Nations, Internet Club, Girl Guides, language clubs, speech and debate, Governors General Youth Award, ceramics, digital photography, ballet, jazz band, and much more. Community Service is integral to an education at LCIS. Students are encouraged to share their time, talent, and energies with others in the community. LCIS offers an excellent, and ever-evolving, platform for technology to complement the IB curriculum by fully engaging and challenging students, and faculty, with the world's best information access and digital tools.
Faculty: In the 2011-2012 school year, there are 51 full-time.
Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year, enrollment was 341. The student body is diverse, representing 24 different countries. There are 56 students in the Early Learning Center, 166 in the Elementary School, and 119 in the Secondary School.
Facilities: The School is a purpose-built gated and secure facility, situated in the beautiful western part of the island of New Providence. Within seven acres, there are 28 classrooms, a library/media center, music and art studios and a science laboratory. Each classroom has multi-media computers and there is a campus wide high-speed, secure, wireless network. The Secondary School is a laptop school and students are required to obtain a MacBookPro. Students in the Elementary School are provided access to laptop computers and tablets. Every classroom has a Promethean interactive whiteboard and students have access to a wide range of additional IT resources. There is a 25 m swimming pool and sports field. The school leases 10 acres with other sports facilities, including soccer fields, softball diamond and a running track. They have sailboats and kayaks in a nearby marina. There are future improvement plans to add additional classrooms, new multi-purpose dining facility, and major renovation to existing buildings.
Finances: In the 2011-2012 school year annual tuition rates are as follows: ELC (Nursery-Kindergarten) - $14,040; Elementary (Grades 1-6) - $17,915; Middle School (Grades 7-10) - $19,770; High School (Grades 11-12) - $21,150. All fees are quoted in U.S. dollars.
