2007-2008

Escuela Campo Alegre, founded in 1937, is a private, coeducational school offering a program for students from Nursery (3 year olds) through grade 12. The school year is comprised of 2 semesters extending from August to June.

Organization: The School is governed by a self-perpetuating Board of Directors, which has 10 members including the director. The School is recognized as tax-exempt in Venezuela and in the United States.

Curriculum: The curriculum is similar to that of a U.S. college-preparatory school, with additional emphasis placed on the Spanish language and the history and culture of Latin America, especially Venezuela. All instruction is given in English. The curriculum also emphasizes the use of technology, problem-solving, and authentic assessment. The full IB Program is offered for students in grades 11 and 12. A full range of extra-curricular activities is available. The School is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the Council of International Schools, and is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools and the Association of American Schools in South America. A great majority of the graduates go on to universities in the United States and Europe.

Faculty: In the 2007-2008 school year, there are 7 administrators, and 97 faculty members.

Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2007-2008 school year, enrollment was 620 (Nursery-grade 5: 283; grades 6-8: 149; and grades 9-12: 188).

Facilities: Located on Calle La Cinta, in the urbanizacion of Las Mercedes, the School is in a central, easily accessible environment which is removed from the daily congestion of Caracas. Campo Alegre's physical plant comprises 77 classrooms, purpose-built science labs, music, art and technology centers, 630-seat theater/auditorium, Astroturf field, 3 gymnasiums, 2 climbing walls, a fitness center, swimming pool, tennis courts, parking structure, cafeteria, 2 fully-equipped multi-purpose meeting areas and a library/media center with over 52,000 catalogues items. The school's website shows the physical plants and describes in detail the school's program.

Finances: In the 2007-2008 school year, the School's income derives from tuition. Annual tuition rates are as follows: Nursery: $7,430; PK: $9,300; Kdg.-grade 5: $14,330; grades 6-10: $17,950; grade 11: $18,530 and grade 12: $19,350. (All fees are quoted in U.S. dollars.)
