The QSI International School of Dushanbe is an independent, coeducational day school which offers an educational program from preschool through grade 8 (with arrangements for older students) for students of all nationalities. The School was founded in 1997. The school year comprises three terms extending from August 25 to December 19, from January 9 to April 1, and from April 2 to June 21.
Organization: The School is governed by the Board of Directors of Quality Schools International, the membership of which is formed as set forth in the Bylaws of Quality Schools International. An Advisory Board, composed of 6 to 10 members who reside in Dushanbe, assists the School in its operation. The School operates with the approval of the Tajikistan government.
Curriculum: The School offers a performance-based, mastery-learning educational program with a curriculum similar to that of U.S. public and private schools. Instruction leading to individual mastery is in English. Small classes are necessitated by the diverse educational backgrounds of the students.
Faculty: In the 2011-2012 school year, there is a director, a teacher for 5 year olds, 5 teachers for ages 6-12, 1 teacher of technology, 2 teaching assistants for the 6 year olds and 9-10 year olds and 1 teacher and 1 assistant for the preschool. Part time instructors offer classes in music, art, and Russian.
Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year, enrollment was 54. QSI Dushanbe has one secondary student this year and is providing online classes with local supervision as well as campus based classes.
Facilities: The new two-level building houses classrooms, offices, a reception area, a presentation room, a lunchroom, and a library. The lower level houses a teachers’ resource room, a large activity room and a large entrance room. There is a large outdoor playground. QSI has leased a second 3 floor building with a playground adjacent to the existing facility. It has 7 large classrooms and 5 smaller classroom spaces.
Finances: In the 2011-2012 school year, the School’s income is derived from tuition. Annual tuition rates are as follows: (3-4 yr old: $4,800 and no capital fund fee); 5 yr old full day-grade 11: $16,700. The School also charges a non-refundable annual capital fund fee of $1,600 per student, and a registration fee of $300. These fees are payable in U.S. dollars. (All fees are quoted in U.S. dollars.)
