SCHOOL YEAR 2007-2008
F O R E W O R D
The Office of Overseas Schools of the U.S. Department of State provides assistance to independent overseas schools that meet certain legislative criteria. The basic purposes of the assistance are a) to ensure that adequate educational opportunities exist for the dependents of U. S. Government personnel stationed overseas, and b) to encourage and assist schools that demonstrate American educational philosophy and practice within the countries in which they are located.
Each entry in the list that follows gives the name and title of the school's chief administrator, followed by the name, address,* and telephone number of the school. The figures following the name of the school administrator indicate the enrollment and the grades included in the regular program. If supervised correspondence work is offered at certain grade levels, the designation correspondence is included. Thus, the notation 392, K-11, Correspondence 12 indicates that the school has a total enrollment of 392, with regular instruction in kindergarten through grade 11 and supervised correspondence study in grade 12.
This directory includes the names and addresses of overseas schools that receive direct or indirect assistance from the Office of Overseas Schools. It is not intended to be a complete listing of all international or American schools abroad; there are many other schools that do not meet the criteria for assistance from the Office of Overseas Schools. (Locations, names, addresses, and other information concerning many of these schools may be obtained from the regional school associations listed at the end of this directory.) Of the schools included in the lists, most follow basically American curricular patterns and utilize English as the language of instruction. A number are binational or international in character, and a few are local schools or schools patterned after schools in countries other than the United States.
There are also U.S. military dependents' schools abroad which are operated by the U. S. Department of Defense. Information regarding these schools may be obtained from:
