Summer 2008

New College Counselor Workshop
June 15-16

As part of the Summer Institute, the College Board is also offering a two part workshop designed specifically for new counselors who have a year or less experience in college admissions counseling. This workshop gives new counselors the basic tools and resources they need to get started.  Fee supported.  Scholarships are available for A/OS assisted schools. Summer Institute for International Admissions
June 16-20

The Summer Institute at Georgetown University, sponsored by the College Board,  has been specifically designed to train individuals from counseling offices at overseas secondary schools, counseling offices at U.S. private boarding/day schools and EducationUSA advising centers. Aerospace Science Institute
June 17-26

The 23rd annual teachers' institute will be held at the Kennedy Space Center in co-operation with the University of Central Florida. Twenty-five (25) participants by application. Tuition, room, and board are free. General information and application form.

Jefferson Overseas Technology Institute (JOSTI)
June 23-27

The 15th annual state-of-the-art technology information/training for administrators, teachers, and techies will be held at the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. American Education Reaches Out: Standards Based Curriculum(AERO: SBC)
June 22-27

Six curriculum institutes at the Potomac School (McLean, VA):

New three-day institute for heads, principals, and others to create a plan for challenging the brightest students.  Sponsored by the Association for the Advancement of International Education; The Center for Talented Youth, Johns Hopkins University; and the Center for Gifted Education, The College of William and Mary.  Fee supported.  Scholarships available for A/OS-assisted schools.  Brochure and Registration Form.

Invitational Aspen-like institute to explore concepts, practices, and processes of executive leadership. All local costs supported.

AAIE Institute on Exceptional Children
(formerly the Optimal Match Network Institute)
July 7-9

Three-day institutes offering practical training in special needs and gifted, sponsored by the Association for the Advancement of International Schools and the Office of Overseas Schools' Committee on Exceptional Children and Youth. One hundred (100) participants by application. Fee supported.  Scholarships available for A/OS-assisted schools.  Brochure , Presenters, and Registration Form.

Directors New to A/OS Schools
July 8-9

A two-day workshop at the U.S. State Department, Office of Overseas Schools, to inform and support school heads new to A/OS schools. Invitational with all local costs supported.
