CANDIDATE: Margaret Ann Uyehara

Margaret Ann Uyehara, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, class of Minister-Counselor, currently serves as Executive Director of the Bureaus of European and Eurasian Affairs and International Organization Affairs in the Department of State. Known as a talented leader and manager, she has three decades of experience managing Department of State staff and resources in the Balkans, in Washington and around the world. She will bring essential skills to the tasks of developing the cadre of largely Entry-Level Officers at Embassy Montenegro and to further bilateral relations with the Government of Montenegro, a key U.S. partner in the Balkans.

Previously, Ms. Uyehara served in the Department of State as Management Counselor, U.S. Tri-Missions, Vienna, Austria (2010 -2012), Director, Regional Support Center, Consulate Frankfurt, Germany (2008-2010), Management Counselor, Embassy Kyiv, Ukraine (2006-2008), Director, Office of Allowances (2002-2005), Supervisory General Services Officer, Embassy Jakarta, Indonesia (1999-2002), Liaison to the National Security Council for the 50th Anniversary, North Atlantic Treaty Organization Summit (1998-1999), Chief, Special Consular Services, Embassy Tokyo, Japan (1995-1998), General Services Officer, Bureau of Personnel (1991-1993), U.S. Disbursing Officer, Embassy Manila, Philippines (1989-1991), Consular Officer, Embassy London, United Kingdom (1985-1987) and General Services Officer, Embassy Bamako, Mali (1983-1984).

Ms. Uyehara earned a Political Science at Kalamazoo College, Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1981 and studied at Georgetown University School of Foreign Service. She is the recipient of five Senior Foreign Service Performance Awards, three Superior Honor Awards and two Meritorious Honor Awards from the Department of State. She speaks German, French, Ukrainian and Japanese.
