CANDIDATE: Charles C. Adams, Jr.
Charles C. Adams, Jr., an international attorney, is Managing Partner of the Geneva, Switzerland Office of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, LLP, a Washington, D.C. legal firm. Widely respected for four decades of high-level practice of international law and policy, Mr. Adams is known as a talented leader, consensus builder and manager. With broad professional experience in Europe and proven interpersonal abilities, Mr. Adams will bring key knowledge and skills to the task of furthering bilateral relations with Finland, an important U.S. partner in European regional affairs and the European Union.
Previously, Mr. Adams served as Managing Partner, Geneva Office, Hogan & Hartson, Geneva, Switzerland (2005-2010), Managing Partner, Geneva Office, Winston & Strawn, Geneva, Switzerland (1993-2005), Attorney, Jones, Day, Reavis & Pogue, Washington, D.C. and Geneva, Switzerland (1986-1993) and Attorney, Surrey & Morse, Washington, D.C. and Paris, France (1973-1986). He has been a Member of the Bar Association of the Commonwealth of Virginia since 1973 and a Member of the Bar Association of the District of Columbia since 1975. He served as a Volunteer in the United States Peace Corps in Kenya, East Africa (1968-1970).
Mr. Adams earned a B.A. from Dartmouth College, Hanover, New Hampshire in 1968 and a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, Charlottesville, Virginia in 1973. As the son of U.S. Foreign Service Officer, he was the recipient of the S. Pinkney Tuck Scholarship at Dartmouth College (1964-1968) and holds a top-tier ranking for international arbitration practitioners in the Chambers and European Legal 500 Directories 2014. Mr. Adams speaks French, German, Conversational Italian and Conversational Swahili.
