FLO WEEKLY UPDATE:

Resources Available to Help Prepare for an Unaccompanied Tour

If you are considering or preparing for an unaccompanied assignment, there are many support resources for employees and their families. Visit FLO’s Internet site for a wealth of information and links, including:

  • Contact Sheet – online form for providing e-mails of family/friends to whom FLO can send information and updates.
  • Decision Tree Guide – document for helping families decide where to live during a UT and available allowances.
  • Workbooks for children – age-specific activity books designed for parents separated by distance from their child.
  • Mental Health Resources – information on available programs offering emotional and life style support.
  • Foggy Bottom Rambles – a blog designed to provide support and guidance for anyone experiencing an UT.
  • Yahoo HomeFrontUS – a private chat group to virtually "meet" other people in a similar situation.
  • Medals and certificates of recognition – a program designed to recognize the sacrifice a child (ages 0-21) has made while a parent is away (employees of Foreign Affairs agencies: State, AID, Commerce, Agriculture, and BBG). Nominate your child today!

FLO offers a comprehensive range of resources and services. We do this in large part through our Communications and Outreach program. As part of our outreach effort, FLO staff travels to different geographic regions and holds town hall and other meetings with post management, employees, and family members in addition to providing personal, electronic, and print resources.
