Subscribe to The Network FLO works closely with Department of State hiring officials, HR specialists, and outside organizations to develop a range of carefully vetted job opportunities for Foreign Service family members in the Washington, D.C. area. Job vacancy announcements and other employment related information, including upcoming programs and FLO services, are distributed regularly by email to registered family members.
Join FLO's Job Seekers Network Group. Whether looking for Federal employment or employment outside of government, searching for a job can be a challenge. Successful job searches require time, energy, information, skills, and the motivation to get started and keep going! The Network Group will keep you informed of new job search information, keep you motivated, and put you in touch with colleagues who are also looking for work. The idea is to share information, contacts, tips, and offer support. Contact FLO to register for the next meeting. Upcoming dates for 2008 include: February 26 from 1:00 - 2:00 pm at FSI, Room E-2118; April 22 from 1:00 -2:00 pm in the Harry S. Truman Building -HST 1239; October 28 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. in the Harry S. Truman Building - Room 1239.
Attend the Returning to Washington Employment Orientation. Two sessions of this program, designed for family members returning to the Washington D.C. area, will be held this summer on: June 24 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. in the Harry S. Truman Building -1239 and August 26 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. at FSI in Room E-2120. Topics will include: job search information; Intermittent No Work Schedule; Executive Order Eligibility; Executive Order 12721: Non-Competitive Eligibility; the Career Development Resource Center; FLO's listserv, The Network; FLO's Job Seekers Networking Group; and the importance of networking.

If you are currently working in a U.S. Mission and have executive order eligibility, and are interested in employment with the Department of State in the Washington, DC area, please make sure you are receiving The Network, an email listserv with job opportunities for family members within the Department.
Visit the Family Member Employment area of the FLO web site. You will be led to a variety of employment options and links to other organizations. You can also view FLO publications and resources.
Contact the Family Liaison Office to schedule an appointment to discuss employment opportunities. If you want to continue government service, please hand carry copies of your most recent personnel actions (SF-50) and PAR (Performance Appraisal Report) and other important employment paperwork with you when returning to the United States.
Register for Transition Center Courses at the Foreign Service Institute. The Transition Center has several courses for those returning to the Washington, DC area.
