There are literally hundreds of Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) implementing life-changing projects for those people living in countries around the world. We provide a sampling of these organizations below.

  • Action Without Borders - Action Without Borders is independent of any government, political ideology or religious creed. Our work is guided by the common desire of our members and supporters to find practical solutions to social and environmental problems, in a spirit of generosity and mutual respect.
  • America's Development Foundation - "A U.S. nonprofit private voluntary organization (PVO) established in 1980 dedicated to the international development of democracy. ADF's overall approach is based on the belief that a strong civil society, comprising a diversity of autonomous economic, political, social and cultural institutions, provides the indispensable foundation of a sustainable democracy.
  • Academy for Educational Development - Founded in 1961, AED is an independent, non-profit organization committed to solving critical social problems and building the capacity of individuals, communities, and institutions to become more self-sufficient. AED works in all the major areas of human development, with a focus on improving education, health, and economic opportunities for the least advantaged in the United States and developing countries throughout the world.
  • American Institutes for Research (AIR) - One of the largest behavioral and social science research organizations in the world with the goal to use the best science available to bring the most effective ideas and approaches to enhancing everyday life.
  • American Red Cross - Works internationally with the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement -- the world's largest humanitarian network with more than 180 Red Cross and Red Crescent national societies and more than 100 million volunteers.

  • CEDPA - The Centre for Development and Population Activities (CEDPA) is an internationally recognized non-profit organization that improves the lives of women and girls in developing countries.  According to their website they work "hand-in-hand with women leaders, local partners, and national and international organizations to give women the tools they need to improve their lives, families and communities."  CEDPA programs include education, reproductive health and HIV AIDS, and strengthening women's leadership abilities.
  • Conservational International - Conservation International's mission is to conserve the earth's living natural resources, our global biodiversity, and to demonstrate that human societies are all able to live harmoniously with nature.
  • Defenders of Wildlife - Dedicated to the protection of all native wild animals and plants in their natural communities.
  • Earthjustice - A non-profit public interest law firm dedicated to protecting the magnificent places, natural resources, and wildlife of this earth and to defending the right of all people to a healthy environment.

  • Eurasia Foundation - Eurasia Foundation is a "privately managed non-profit organization supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and other public and private donors. Since 1992, the Eurasia Foundation has invested over $360 million through more than 8,000 grants and operating programs in Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan."

  • International Executive Service Corps (IESC) International Executive Service Corps is a nonprofit economic development organization that uses volunteer experts, paid consultants, and professional staff to promote prosperity and stability through private enterprise development. IESC's most important and universally applied resource is its Skills Bank registry of approximately 8,500 volunteer experts and professional consultants. Through its worldwide programs and more than 25,000 assistance consultancies, IESC has implemented development programs in more than 130 countries.

  • National Endowment for Democracy - NED is a private, nonprofit organization created in 1983 to strengthen democratic institutions around the world through nongovernmental efforts. The Endowment is governed by an independent, nonpartisan board of directors. With its annual congressional appropriation, it makes hundreds of grants each year to support prodemocracy groups in Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and the former Soviet Union.

  • Research Triangle Institute - RTI International offers innovative research and development and a full spectrum of multi-disciplinary services worldwide in health and pharmaceuticals, advanced technology, surveys and statistics, education and training, economic and social development, and the environment.

  • Women in International Security (WIIS) - WIIS, part of the Center for Peace and Security Studies (CPASS), in the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University, is a non-profit, non-partisan membership organization dedicated to increasing the influence of women in foreign and defense affairs by raising their numbers and visibility, while enhancing dialogue on international security issues.  Basic membership costs $60 and includes a jobs hotline, as well as newsletter and more. 
  • World Learning for International Development - World Learning is a private, non-profit international organization with both academic and field project capabilities. Through our four program units -- The Experiment in International Living, School for International Training (SIT), World Learning for International Development, and World Learning for Business -- World Learning is a leader in the fields of international exchange, study abroad, sustainable development, teacher education, language training, peacebuilding, and NGO management.
