Special Agents
Diplomatic Security special agents are federal law enforcement officers who serve worldwide. Overseas, our special agents advise ambassadors on all security issues and coordinate all of a mission's security programs. In the United States, agents investigate passport and visa fraud and protect the Secretary of State and visiting foreign dignitaries.

Security Engineering Officers
Security engineering officers are highly skilled professional engineers who serve worldwide. Security engineers are responsible for the technical and informational security programs at our diplomatic and consular posts overseas. In the United States, engineers provide support for our overseas operations.

Security Technical Specialists
Security technical specialists are assigned throughout the world to develop, implement, and maintain technical security programs at U.S. diplomatic missions.

Diplomatic Couriers
Diplomatic couriers ensure the secure movement of classified U.S. Government material across international borders.

Civil Service
The Bureau of Diplomatic Security has a dedicated cadre of Civil Service employees who work in a variety of disciplines.

Potential applicants are strongly encouraged to read the vacancy announcement prior to submitting their application.

Special Agent Job Posting Now Closed
The announcement for Diplomatic Security Special Agent job openings is now closed. Based on the number of candidates, testing will be conducted over a period of approximately 9 months. Those individuals who will be invited to the written and oral assessments will be contacted in the upcoming months to schedule a testing date.

Security Protective Specialists Recruitment Period Now Closed
The application period for DS Security Protective Specialist and Supervisory Security Protective Specialist is now closed. We are reviewing the applications submitted and will be contacting those individuals who will be invited to written and oral assessments within the next 8 to 12 weeks.
