The United States Attorney's Office announced that during a federal court session in Missoula, on October 14, 2010, before U.S. District Judge Donald W. Molloy, ROBERT RYANN WOODS, a 58-year-old resident of Lakeside, pled guilty to making a false statement in a passport application. Sentencing has been set for January 13, 2011. He is currently detained.

In an Offer of Proof filed by Assistant U.S. Attorney Bryan R. Whittaker, the government stated it would have proved at trial the following:

On October 2, 2008, WOODS willfully and knowingly made a false statement in an application for a passport by failing to disclose that he had previously used the names of Robert William Longwood and Dennis Dale Blanchard on passport applications, and had in fact, been issued a U.S. passport in the name of Robert William Longwood.

WOODS faces possible penalties of 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and 3 years supervised release.

The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Department of State's Diplomatic Security Service.
