Tracy H. Mahaffey
Executive Director, Bureau of Diplomatic Security
Tracy H. Mahaffey became Executive Director for Diplomatic Security on July 18, 2010. She is a career member of the Senior Executive Service.
As the Executive Director, she is principal advisor to the Assistant Secretary and Director of Diplomatic Security Service on all administrative, management, and resource management matters affecting the Bureau. Ms. Mahaffey oversees the Office of the Chief Financial Officer, the Office of the Chief Technology Officer, Office of Management Services, and Human Resource Management.
Ms. Mahaffey joined the Department of State in 1982 and has more than 28 years in the administrative field. Prior to the Executive Director positions she was the Deputy Executive Director and the Office Director for Management Services. From 2006 to 2007 she served in the Countermeasures Directorate as the Senior Resource Manager and prior to that served as a program analyst with DS's Office of Physical Security Programs from 2004 to 2006.
Ms. Mahaffey has worked for the Department in many administrative positions throughout her career. Before joining Diplomatic Security, she worked in each of the Department of State’s management bureaus (CA, FSI, A, and HR) from 1982 to 1998. Some of her other assignments include Policy Analyst, Management Analyst, and Personnel Management Specialist.
Mrs. Mahaffey is the recipient of several Department of State honors and awards, including the DS Civil Service Employee of the Year Award in 2008, Superior and Meritorious Honor Awards, and the Vice President’s Hammer Award for her assistance with the Integrated Personnel Management System to build a government that is more effective and efficient.
