Alex Barrasso joined the State Department in 1999. His prior postings in the U.S. Foreign Service have included Colombia, Singapore and Chiang Mai. He also served as the Desk Officer for Burma while based in Washington, D.C.
Alex earned a B.A. in history from the University of Pennsylvania in 1995, and a M.A. from the Paul H. Nitze School for Advanced International Studies of Johns Hopkins University, in 1999. The son of Italian immigrants, he was born and raised in New York City.
Alex speaks Spanish, Thai, Italian and German. During his free time, Alex enjoys chess and exercising.
