UNSC to Adopt Resolution to Protect Women in Conflict Situations
(Sept. 30): Resolution 1325, adopted in 2000, requires parties in conflict to respect women’s rights and support their participation in peace negotiations and post-conflict reconstruction. Resolution 1820, adopted in 2008, establishes a clear link between maintaining international peace and security and preventing and responding to the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war. Chad-Sudan Talks
"The U.S. welcomes the steps taken by the Governments of Chad and Sudan on the visit to N’Djamena by the Sudanese delegation. ...we encourage Sudan and Chad to take meaningful and concrete steps to cease support for rebels operating on both sides of the Chad/Sudan border. The United States remains committed to working with all parties to reach a resolution of the conflict in Darfur, to relieve the humanitarian suffering in both Darfur and eastern Chad, and to restore peace in the region."
