Kimberley Process
(Nov. 10): In light of serious concerns about Zimbabwe’s compliance with the Kimberley Process (KP) rough diamond certification scheme, we await full and expeditious implementation of the stringent controls that were agreed at the KP Plenary in Swakopmund, Nambia on November 5 for exports of rough diamonds from Zimbabwe’s Marange fields. UNSC to Adopt Resolution to Protect Women in Conflict Situations
(Sept. 30): Resolution 1325, adopted in 2000, requires parties in conflict to respect women’s rights and support their participation in peace negotiations and post-conflict reconstruction. Resolution 1820, adopted in 2008, establishes a clear link between maintaining international peace and security and preventing and responding to the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war.
