Earth Day Celebrated in Nairobi

Nairobi, Kenya
April 22, 2005

For the second year in a row, the US Embassy in Nairobi planted 1,000 trees in Nairobi Karura Forest on the occasion of Earth Day. In his speech, which was reported widely in the media, Amb. William Bellamy highlighted environmental efforts that the US government has taken on in Kenya, which concentrate on deforestation and bringing social and economic benefits to local communities, creating new jobs and generating income, all achieved in harmony with nature and the environment. Other Ambassadors and school children joined in to help plant the trees.
