Representatives Jim Kolbe of Arizona, Nita Lowey of New York, and Roger Wicker of Mississippi toured development projects supported by the United States government in Arusha and Dar es Salaam. These parliamentarians are all members of the House of Representatives’ Appropriations Committee. The objective of their visit was to assess efforts by the United States government and the United Nations to promote economic and social development, combat HIV/AIDS, and promote environmental conservation in Tanzania.

The delegation’s stay in Arusha included visits to the Land O’ Lakes Kijimo Dairy Cooperative, Tanzania Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., Maasai Women Development Organisation, Makuyuni Primary School Rainwater Harvesting Project, Tarangire National Park Visitors Center, Manyara Ranch, and Naisho Women’s Group Cultural Boma. Each of these projects is supported by funds from the United States.

In Dar es Salaam, the members of Congress visited the Vaccine Fund/GAVI Amtulbai Clinic, Pastoral Activities and Services for People with AIDS (PASADA), an AMREF Training Site, and the UVIKIUTA Youth Center.
