U.S. European Command Supports Underprivileged Muslims in Accra

EUCOM supports underprivileged Muslims in Accra -Air Force Gen. Charles F. Wald, U.S. European Command Deputy Commander, visited Accra, Ghana July 15-16, for discussions with Ghana's senior military leadership and President John Kufuor. Unfortunately, the general's plane was late and U.S. Ambassador Mary Carlin Yates stood in for him at two planned events in Nima, a largely Muslim and very poor neighborhood in Accra. EUCOM humanitarian assistance funds were used by U.S. Navy "Seabees" to construct a community center in Nima and PAS and EUCOM shared funding for a book presentation at an Islamic school nearby.
