The Bureau of African Affairs implements U.S. foreign policy in sub-Saharan Africa. The Bureau promotes U.S. interests in the region on issues such as trade and business via the African Growth and Opportunity Act; health (malaria, malnutrition, HIV); and women’s justice and empowerment via the Women's Justice and Empowerment Initiative; education via the African Education Initiative; as well as the current drought in the Horn of Africa.
