Secretary Clinton (Oct. 1):
"I think women's rights are a national security issue, if you look at terrorism and extremism and abject poverty and a lot of the effects and the causes of instability, you more likely than not will find places that try to limit women’s roles and rights. And so often, those who stand against us stand against the rights of women. So we do have to integrate this into our national security. But it’s not just holding a conference. Secretary Clinton (Sept. 30):
"Under the UN Charter, the 15 members of this Council bear primary responsibility for maintaining international peace and security. Now, satisfying that responsibility includes us to protect the lives and physical security of all people, including the women who comprise half the planet’s population. This responsibility is particularly acute in circumstances where peace and stability are challenged. Even though women and children are rarely responsible for initiating armed conflict, they are often war’s most vulnerable and violated victims."  Opening Remarks | Fact Sheet | Remarks After the Meeting
