Davies Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs Term of Appointment: 08/06/2007 to present Glyn Davies currently serves as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs. As the Bureau's second-ranking official, he serves as Acting Assistant Secretary in the absence of the Assistant Secretary, and is responsible for all management, budget and personnel issues relating to the Bureau posts and domestic operations. He is specifically responsible for relations with Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands; U.S. public diplomacy and public affairs in the Asia-Pacific region. Mr. Davies, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service most recently served as Acting Assistant Secretary, Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor from May 31, 2005 until October 13, 2005. He previously served as as Deputy Assistant Secretary for European Affairs, Political Director for the U.S. Presidency of the G-8 (Ambassadorial Rank), Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in London, Executive Secretary of the National Security Council Staff, State Department Deputy Spokesman and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs and Director of the State Department Operations Center, the U.S. Government's 24-hour Foreign Affairs Crisis Management Office. He has posted as the Deputy Political Counselor at the American Embassy in Paris, and in the European Bureau's Office of European Security and Political Affairs, working primarily on NATO nuclear and disarmament issues. Mr. Davies served from 1986-87 as Special Assistant to Secretary of State George Shultz. Mr. Davies spent his first five years in the Foreign Service at the American Consulate General in Melbourne, Australia (1980-82) and the American Embassy in Kinshasa, Zaire (1982-84). Mr. Davies holds a Bachelor's degree from Georgetown University and a Master's with distinction, from the National Defense University. |
