Remarks Following Meetings With Mongolian Government Officials

Christopher Hill, Assistant Secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs
Ulanbaatar, Mongolia
June 15, 2007

QUESTION: (Inaudible)

ASSISTANT SECRETARY HILL: I don't have anything new. As far as we know, it has been completed. I don't have any new information about that, but we expect that it is completed. So let us wait to see if we hear anything from the DPRK tonight. They usually make announcements at night during their news broadcasts.

QUESTION: Are you waiting for the North Koreans to come out and confirm that?

ASSISTANT SECRETARY HILL: I am not waiting for anything. I have just gone through four meetings this afternoon, and I will go back for the start-up dinner of the Williamsburg Conference. So we will see what the North Koreans do. But as far as we know, the money has been transferred.

QUESTION: To the Russians?

ASSISTANT SECRETARY HILL: I am sorry?

QUESTION: It is already in the Russian bank?

ASSISTANT SECRETARY HILL: As far as we know, it is in Russia. And I think there are a couple of Russian banks involved, so I am sure that it is moving along.

QUESTION: (Inaudible)

ASSISTANT SECRETARY HILL: Yes.

QUESTION: (Inaudible)

ASSISTANT SECRETARY HILL: I am not sure if there is someone from North Korea here. Is there? I am not aware that there is. I have no plans to meet him. But I have no plans not to meet him. So I just am not aware of anyone from North Korea here.

QUESTION: Where can we find you tomorrow?

ASSISTANT SECRETARY HILL: I will be at the conference in the morning.

QUESTION: At what time?

ASSISTANT SECRETARY HILL: I don't know.

U.S. EMBASSY OFFICIAL: About 9 o'clock.

ASSISTANT SECRETARY HILL: 9 o'clock. ... No, 6 o'clock in the morning. (Laughs).
