Remarks to the Press About Talks With North Korean OfficialsChristopher R. Hill, Assistant Secretary, Bureau of East Asian and Pacific AffairsPyongyang, North Korea June 22, 2007 ASSISTANT SECRETARY HILL: The talks are very detailed, very substantive and I believe they were also very useful and positive.
The DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) indicated that they are prepared promptly to shut down the Yongbyon facility as called for in the February agreement. They also said that they are prepared to disable the Yongbyon facility as called for in the February agreement. [I've come away from this] two-day set of meeting buoyed by a sense of that we are going to be able to achieve our full objectives, that is complete denuclearisation, but, also burdened by the realisation of the fact that we are going to have to spend a great deal of time, a great deal of effort, a lot of work in achieving these. |
