Deputy Assistant Secretary
Pamela Quanrud assumed her duties as Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs in September 2009. In this capacity, Ms. Quanrud oversees bilateral relations with Nordic, Baltic, and Central European countries.
Ms. Quanrud comes to the Bureau following a tour as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw, Poland. Prior to her assignment in Poland, Ms. Quanrud served as Economic Minister Counselor in Moscow, Russia from 2004 - 2007, which followed by a decade her first tour in Moscow. From 2001 to 2003, Ms. Quanrud served as a Director for European Affairs at the National Security Council, with responsibility for U.S.- EU relations. Her earlier assignments include the U.S. Mission to the UN (from 1997 to 1999), and Embassy Bonn at the time of German unification.
Ms. Quanrud brings with her an extensive background in trade and finance, countries in transition, the European Union, and Eastern European and Soviet studies. She has a Bachelor's Degree from Dartmouth College and a Masters Degree from the London School of Economics. She is married and has two children.
